Placement 2 - Bacchus Marsh Grammar

Retrospective Professional Engagement and AITSL Evidence Reflection
Sarabjeet Dev | Master of Teaching | EED7004

Evidence integrity statement. This document is a retrospective professional reflection connected to the original lesson plans and observation material retained from Bacchus Marsh Grammar. It distinguishes demonstrated placement evidence from Graduate-level professional understanding and does not invent interactions or outcomes that are not supported by original evidence.

AITSL 3.7 - Engage parents/carers in the educative process

My professional learning reinforced that involving parents/carers can strengthen continuity between school and home. Appropriate strategies include communicating learning goals and assessment expectations clearly, sharing progress through approved school channels, making communication accessible and respectful, and recognising that families differ in language, culture, availability and preferred ways of engaging. Evidence level: professional understanding; direct family engagement is not claimed.

AITSL 5.5 - Report on student achievement

Planning lessons across a sequence highlighted the need for accurate information about what students know and can do. Evidence collected through questioning, classwork and assessment can support reliable records and later reporting. Reporting should communicate achievement and next learning steps clearly and should be based on evidence rather than impressions. Evidence level: professional understanding supported by planning/observation context; formal reporting evidence remains separate.

AITSL 6.1 - Identify and plan professional learning needs

Reviewing my lesson planning and observation experiences enabled me to identify areas for development such as explicit instruction, purposeful questioning, differentiation, formative assessment, lesson pacing and classroom management. The Graduate Teacher Standards provide a useful framework for turning these observations into focused goals that can be revisited across placements.

AITSL 6.2 - Engage in professional learning and improve practice

The Bacchus Marsh Grammar placement provided authentic professional learning through lesson preparation, observation of teaching, discussion with supervising teachers and reflection on practice. My retained lesson plans and observation sheet show the context in which this learning occurred. I understand appropriate professional-learning sources to include mentor expertise, colleague observation, curriculum guidance, professional literature, school-based learning and subject-specific resources.

AITSL 6.4 - Apply professional learning and improve student learning

The sequence of retained lesson plans demonstrates an ongoing planning process rather than a single isolated lesson. Continued professional learning is important because teachers need to refine explanations, scaffolds, resources and assessment in response to learners. Where direct student-impact data from this placement is not retained, I do not claim a measured improvement. The professional lesson for my subsequent practice is to preserve stronger evidence chains linking feedback, teaching adjustments and student responses.

AITSL 7.1 - Meet professional ethics and responsibilities

Professional experience required respectful interactions, appropriate boundaries, confidentiality and responsible use of school and student information. I understand that ethical practice includes fairness, respect, student wellbeing and seeking guidance from supervising teachers when an issue exceeds the authority or experience of a pre-service teacher.

AITSL 7.2 - Legislative, administrative and organisational requirements

School teaching occurs within legislative, administrative and organisational requirements. During professional experience I was expected to work within school procedures and supervising-teacher direction relating to matters such as safety, supervision, privacy, attendance and professional conduct. This retrospective document demonstrates my understanding without publishing internal or confidential school information.

AITSL 7.3 - Engage with parents/carers

Effective engagement with parents/carers requires sensitivity, confidentiality and professional communication. I would use approved school channels, protect student privacy, communicate respectfully and factually, focus conversations on learning and wellbeing, and seek mentor guidance where appropriate. Evidence level: Graduate-level understanding; this document does not claim that I personally conducted parent/carer communication during this placement.

AITSL 7.4 - Engage with professional teaching networks and broader communities

The placement strengthened my understanding that teaching practice benefits from expertise beyond an individual classroom. Colleagues, learning-support and wellbeing staff, subject associations, allied professionals and community representatives can broaden teachers' professional knowledge and contribute to more informed support for students. Evidence level: understanding of professional networks; a specific external-professional interaction is not claimed without direct evidence.
